Some of the Impacts of Technology on Environment

This is the era of technology. The world is getting smarter along with technology. We are entering into the phase of artificial intelligence which makes our life smart and quick. But have you ever thought about what we are doing to our environment in which we have to live? We have no idea how much we are damaging our environment and what the impacts of technology on environment are. We are using our natural resources at an alarming rate and also polluting the environment knowingly or unknowingly. Let us see how.

  1. Air pollution:

Air pollution occurs when harmful gases or increased quantities of gases mixed in the atmosphere of the earth. Harmful gases are carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, nitric oxide, and sulfur oxide. The main sources of these pollutants are related technology like industries, vehicles, use of fossil fuels, power stations, mass agriculture. There is a harmful impact of these pollutants on human health as well as animal health. On the other hand, greenhouse gases trap thermal energy in the atmosphere of the earth and increase global warming due to a rise in temperature

  1. Water pollution:

Water pollution occurs when water bodies like rivers, ponds, lakes, oceans, and groundwater get contaminated due to human activities and the main reasons are industrial waste, household waste, use of pesticides and insecticides, etc. One of the specific reasons is releasing untreated wastewater into the water bodies and this affects the aquatic ecosystem. This causes serious diseases also kike cholera, typhoid, etc. This is one of the impacts of technology on the environment

  1. Depletion of natural resources:

The use of technology leads to the depletion of resources as well. This means that the resources are used at a faster rate which can lead to the replenishment of the resources. Natural resources are the resources which produced themselves without any human involvement and they are present in limited quantities. They can be renewable or nonrenewable in nature. There are different types of resource depletion like deforestation, soil erosion, mining of fossil fuels, overconsumption of fossil fuels, contamination of resources, etc.

Due to the increase in population at a faster rate, the natural resources are also getting depleted at a faster rate. Development and usage of technology contribute to the use of raw material from natural resources like wild animals, timber wood, coal, etc. Extensive agricultural activities like deforestation, the use of pesticides, and chemicals for good yield also affect the environment. Increased mining process of gold, diamond, and other valuable minerals leads to the depletion of resources at a faster rate which is one of the impacts of technology on environment and it should be considered as this is high time now.
